The Market Gap Left by Western Brands: A 2026–2027 Opportunity Map for Turkish Companies
| Sector | Before 2021 (Western Brands) | 2026 Opportunity (Turkish Companies) | Related Fair |
|---|---|---|---|
| Footwear & Leather | Geox, Ecco, Clarks, Salamander | Turkish leather and footwear manufacturers | LeShow / Euro Shoes @ CPM |
| Textile & Clothing | H&M, Zara, Mango, Reserved | Turkish apparel and home textiles | Textillegprom |
| Food & Beverage | European private label brands | Turkish food exporters | WorldFood / Prodexpo |
| Plastics & Packaging | German and Italian suppliers | Turkish plastics sector | Ruplastica |
| Automotive Parts | Western European OEM suppliers | Turkish automotive supply industry | MIMS Automobility |
The table above is not a projection but a lived commercial reality. Since 2022, more than 200 international brands have withdrawn from the Russian market. However, this market of 145 million consumers did not disappear; the need for footwear continues, the food basket is being filled, and factories are looking for plastic and packaging materials. Who is filling this gap? According to the data, Turkey is one of the rare NATO members among Russia’s largest trading partners. Turkish companies can read this picture not as “going and making sales” but as becoming the new owner of a market that is structurally being vacated. This guide was prepared to tie that position to concrete fair calendars.
The Turkey–Russia Trade Bridge: A Strategic Position in Numbers
In the post-2022 period, Turkey’s trade volume with Russia showed a notable increase. Turkey became one of Russia’s primary external suppliers across many categories, from textiles to food, from construction materials to machinery and equipment. This development is not coincidental; it is the result of a structural positioning.
Geographical advantage: The average flight time from Istanbul to Moscow is 3 hours. Unlike Western competitors reaching Moscow from Frankfurt, Milan or Amsterdam, for Turkish companies Russia is a regional market; not an intercontinental journey. This distance advantage is directly reflected in logistics costs and fair organization.
Diplomatic access: Turkey maintains its bilateral economic relations with Russia while preserving its NATO membership. This balance gives Turkish companies both access to Western financial systems and the ability to maintain an operational presence in Russian markets. While Western European competitors cannot do both at the same time, Turkish companies can reach into both wallets at once.
Cultural and historical ties: Thanks to decades of tourism, textile and food trade between the Turkish and Russian consumer bases, brand recognition and a foundation of trust already exist. The “trust-building process” that a Western brand entering Russia for the first time must carry has largely already been overcome for Turkish companies.
Textile and apparel: Turkey has become an active supplier in both the lower and upper-tier categories of Russia’s ready-to-wear imports. Turkish apparel manufacturers emerging from Diyarbakır, Bursa and Istanbul are settling into the gap left by leading fast-fashion brands.
Food exports: Russia’s food purchasing pattern has changed. The place of European private label products is being filled by Turkish flour products, sweets, olive oil, canned goods and beverage brands. WorldFood Moscow and Prodexpo are the most concrete showcases of this transformation.
Important Note: Trade with Russia has a dynamic regulatory structure in terms of payment systems, logistics routing and sector-specific regulations. Before starting your fair planning, we recommend that you evaluate the current situation specific to your sector with Delta Expo experts.
Two Cities, Two Fair Centers
Moscow
Russia’s commercial capital and the city of 6 of the 7 fairs in this guide. Crocus Expo International Exhibition Center, as the shared venue for textile, leather, food, plastic and footwear fairs, reinforces Moscow’s commercial weight.
Fairs: LeShow, Euro Shoes @ CPM, WorldFood, Textillegprom, Ruplastica, Prodexpo
Saint Petersburg
Russia’s second-largest city and the center of the automotive industry. Expoforum Saint Petersburg hosts the MIMS Automobility fair, appealing to a different buyer base. It forms a separate route for Turkish companies targeting the automotive supply industry and OEM supply.
Fair: MIMS Automobility Saint Petersburg
The buyer profiles and purchasing decision mechanisms of the two cities differ. Moscow operates through holding and distributor centers where central purchasing decisions are made. Saint Petersburg, on the other hand, offers a more direct dialogue environment with regional factory purchasing managers and technical decision-makers. Delta Expo’s local network established in both cities makes it easier for you to manage this distinction operationally.

Points to Consider When Participating in Russia Fairs
The opportunity map that Russia offers is real; however, some operational and regulatory matters that need to be considered when entering this market require more preparation compared to other fair destinations. With its 30 years of Russia fair tour experience, Delta Expo manages these processes on behalf of participants; nevertheless, we summarize below what you need to know.
Payment and Banking Systems
After 2022, international payment channels were restructured in terms of transactions with Russia. In order to be able to receive payment through SWIFT–alternative systems (the MIR card system, direct bank transfer, authorized intermediary institutions), corporate bank arrangements need to be made in advance. Delta Expo provides participants with practical guidance on this matter at the start of the process.
Sector-Specific Regulations and Rosstandart Certification
Some product categories require approval from Rosstandart (the Russian national standards body) before being offered for sale in the Russian market. Food products, electrical equipment and certain textile categories may fall within this scope. It is worth recalling that there is a difference, in terms of certification obligation, between bringing samples to the fair and making commercial sales.
Insurance and Logistics
In the process of transporting fair equipment and samples to Russia, cargo insurance and customs declaration procedures differ from standard EU customs processes. Preparing the supplementary customs documents in advance and, if necessary, working with a specialized Russia logistics operator minimizes process loss.
Keeping Track of Current Regulations
The pace of change in trade regulations with Russia is higher than in standard export markets. We strongly recommend that you evaluate the current regulations specific to your sector together with Delta Expo experts 3–4 months before the fair date. This step is the surest way to protect your fair investment.

Russia Visa: Practical Information for Fair Participants
Russia does not grant visa exemption to Turkish citizens. For fair participation, a Russian residence visa or business visa must be obtained. The visa application can be made through the Russian Federal Tourism Agency or the Russian Consulate. An e-visa application is also ongoing for some regional entry points; however, whether this application covers entries into Moscow and Saint Petersburg may change from time to time.
Required documents: An invitation letter (from the fair or the Russian host company), a valid passport, a visa application form and an insurance certificate are among the basic documents. For corporate participants, a trade registry certificate and a signature circular may also be requested.
Delta Expo provides Russia visa document preparation within the scope of the fair package. For the current status of visa procedures and the document list, you can review our page below.
